Laptop Changes Everything

Fatima arrived in Toronto from Syria six months ago. She speaks English. She has a degree in accounting. She’s ready to work.

But she can’t apply for jobs. Not properly. She’s been filling out applications on a cracked phone screen, trying to type a cover letter with her thumbs. She’s qualified for jobs she can’t even apply for.

Good Karma Charity runs a digital literacy program. We teach newcomers, seniors, and anyone left behind by technology how to use computers, apply for jobs online, and build the skills that get them hired. But we need laptops.

$150 buys a refurbished laptop for one person in our digital literacy program. $250 buys a laptop plus a three-month internet stipend. $500 sponsors a full digital literacy cohort — five people with laptops, internet, and training.

This isn’t charity. This is a bridge. From a phone screen and a dead end to a laptop and a job interview. 95% goes to the program. You get a receipt. You’ll also get a photo of the person whose life you changed.
