No senior should have to choose between heating their home and eating dinner
Every winter, thousands of seniors in the GTA face an impossible choice: pay the heating bill, or buy groceries. They can’t do both.
Margaret is 78. She lives alone in a one-bedroom apartment in Scarborough. Her pension covers rent and not much else. Last January, she turned her thermostat down to 14 degrees and wore two sweaters to bed so she could afford food that week. She’s not an exception. She’s one of thousands.
Good Karma Charity delivers hot meals and fresh groceries to seniors like Margaret. We knock on their door. We ask how they’re doing. We make sure they’re warm and fed — not one or the other.
$25 delivers a hot meal and a week of groceries to a senior who’s choosing between heat and food tonight. $100 keeps one senior warm and fed for a month. $500 sponsors a senior for the entire winter.
We don’t have an office building. We don’t have a marketing team. 95% of every dollar goes straight to the seniors
who need it. When you give, you get a receipt. You’ll also get a note when your money kept someone warm.
